Week 6
Kitchen Fire
I didn’t get started on this song until yesterday, and technically I’m a day late. Being out of town for 11 days and then nasty sickness in our house kinda hit me hard.
I decided for this song I would try going forward with every idea as it comes - no filter, no negative voices, every idea is valid - and just see what happens. The chord progression came pretty fast, though I tweaked it as I worked out lyrics and melody. It was fun to watch this one take shape so quickly.
I love making these videos but didn’t have much time, so I just filmed myself dancing around like an idiot and clipped bits and pieces together. Silly, sure. But it’s a motherfuckin’ pop song!
I hope you enjoy it but if you don’t that’s totally cool too. You still get all my love.
KITCHEN FIRE
You light the kitchen fire
Turn to face the night
You are the town crier
But tonight your cheeks are dry
You fill your vessel full
You can’t see anything as it really is
And though you never will
Every mundane thing is filled with brilliance
Every mundane thing is filled with light
Your love is a work of art
With watercolor guns
I’ve been breaking hearts
Since before you even had one
You say I’m adorably disappointing
But that’s not my intention
We break up in slow-mo
Just because I want to stay
Don’t mean that I do not want to go
You start the kitchen fire
Turn to face the night
You are the town crier
But tonight your cheeks are dry
When the sickness hits your gut
And your heart collapses
Into the singularity
Please remember
With enough pressure
Anything can become a black hole
